8pm-2am
Sanlitun South Bar Street
6506-3845
Thursdays see DJ Martin, Fridays and Saturdays go to Flamenco night and Wednesdays hear Kim’s Canadian Funk Band. Shows start at 10pm, Jam House is a popular live music bar that, as the name suggests, has free jazz and blues jam sessions every Thursdays. At the weekends there are live flamenco bands. A veritable institution in the Beijing bar scene, the Jam House was among the first bars to open on Sanlitun Nanjie. Today, its downstairs stage plays host to a regular rotation of rock, jazz and flamenco bands. Its spacious bottom floor has plenty of tables, couches and chairs, so the place never gets too uncomfortably crowded. Its rooftop patio is one of the best in town.

Large windows on the exterior provide you a view of a stage area, bathed in hazy red lights and occupied by a cover band. From the outside, it certainly looks like a happening place. Once inside, however, you discover it’s more of the same: the atmosphere is loud and charmless and the music consists almost entirely of Eagles covers. The band’s actually not that bad as far as cover bands go (complete with sexy backup singers).

Is it the Bonner cartoons spicing the walls? Or those cheap beers? Whatever the reason, this place has been packed since opening. And boy, it sure gets hot in there! The primarily dance-on-the-tables kind of disco tunes are interspersed with the occasional live - musical and comedic - performance.

The Milan Club’s recently-renovated interior is dominated by a brightly-lit catwalk surrounded by chairs. On tap are nightly ‘model shows’ featuring extremely tall ‘models’ pacing back and forth to a soundtrack of international pop music.

This ever-popular watering hole lies at the south end of Sanlitun and is usually one of the first places pub-crawlers hit as they make their way up the street. A favourite for yuppies out on the town, it’s always packed and loud enough to make intimate conversation difficult. Music policy is strictly Mandopop, sometimes live, sometimes canned.
